“Things that are uncomfortable are sometimes good for the soul.” So goes the old Chinese proverb…probably. Regardless of whether someone really did scratch these sentiments into parchment centuries ago, though, it’s undeniably true. And, conveniently enough, illustrated in the lead track of Adam Marshall’s new EP.
Having been compared to classic mix CDs such as Richie Hawtin’s Decks, EFX & 909 and Jeff Mills’s Live at the Liquid Room by Resident Advisor, Deadbeat’s Radio Rothko, released in March on The Agriculture label, has been showered with consistent praise by journalists and listeners the world over.
In support of it’s release, Deadbeat has developed a hybrid DJ/Live set which combines his own material with exclusive edits and live reworks of some of the classic dub techno tracks that were featured on the CD. Though the CD version of Radio Rothko was geared more toward a home listening environment, this special live presentation sets it’s sights clearly on the dance floor, a purpose built engine of tectonic dub bass, jacking rhythms, cascading noise, and echos to infinity. In other words, this is a celebration of dub techno in the truest sense, and Deadbeat like you have never heard him before.
