Deadbeat Mixes Radio Rothko
Deadbeat will release a new mix CD called Radio Rothko on Brooklyn’s The Agriculture imprint later this year.
Comprising artists such as DeepChord, Monolake, Quantec and Pendle Coven, Radio Rothko presents a healthy mix of dub techno’s classics and contemporaries, with a notable emphasis on the work of Basic Channel’s Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald. The mix takes advantage of the music’s spacious and atmospheric nature, bubbling up into a more dance floor-friendly centre before showcasing the dubbier end of the dub techno spectrum.
Shouting Nonsense EP – Airdrop Records (release date: Jan 25th)
After releasing milestone EPs between 2007 and 2008 on Pheek’s Archipel imprint, Immigrant and their home label, Cynosure, the Uruguayan duo MONOBLOCK completed a great 2009. Inaugurating the Spanish Une Label during the summer with their Introduktion EP, Monoblock also released InTensiones, their third record on Mike Shannon’s Cynosure.
Recent Berlin implants, by way of Valencia, MONOBLOCK start off 2010 right with an unabridged and superbly executed artist EP on Airdrop Records. Bringing together three tracks of different moods, the Shouting Nonsense EP reflects the richness and diversity of the various electronic concepts covered by Monoblock. Going from the most rousing and igniting grooves in Shouting Nonsense to the more stripped environment of Cienpies, via the use of live instruments in Calid.
As MONOBLOCK headlined Berlin’s Weekend Club’s Sylvester bash, and with many worldwide performances ahead of them, including gigs in Japan, at London’s Fabric or a US tour in March, 2010 already announces itself to be greatly bounteous for the fantastic duo!

For INT011 we once again bring you the ridiculously funny and quite talented Colin aka The Mole this time joined by close friends under the moniker Guilty Pleasures. This is what he’s got to say. In his own words…. wow, it’s finally out. shit it has been a long time coming. hmm i think this might be my first one sheet. i always laugh at these things. not because they are actually funny but probably because my sense of humour is …well anyway that doesn’t matter …let’s get to it.. family. man have i ever been waiting for this to come out. me and sophie. and a few others who keep on asking … thanks for asking ! i love this song. probably next to the modern deep left record it’s the thing i am most proud of. i feel overwhelmingly proud to have been lucky enough to work with people as talented as sophie trudeau and danuel tate on this song. those two are so heavy i’m still a little in shock. don’t believe me just look up sophie’s cv. heavy duty mama. now i’m wondering what to write without babbling on and on. this is a one sheet after all and i don’t think many people read these right? so if you are reading this… pre-order lots of copies!! you be so glad when it gets into car commercials and a hugh grant rom-com and you can say you saw the potential and sold 400 copies out of your little store. well maybe that’s a little far fetched. i don’t think i’d be proud of spotting the next rom-com theme song. but you should still take the chance and sell hundreds. i think it is shit hot. i’m super proud of it (again i’m saying it). both sides. though of course family is and has been the big fish for some time now. did i already say i’ve been waiting more than 2 years for this to come out? suddenly i feel like i’m at the oscars… i’d like to thank sophie .. for being super cool and doing such excellent work and really being there with me finishing ever little detail on this monster. i’d like to thank dan …for letting me cut his solo ‘with a rusty knife’. mom. of c
Intensiones EP – Cynosure (Release date: Dec 8th)
The Duo From Uruguay Monoblock are back with another deadly combination of tracks. Finally the time has come to release (on vinyl only) the bootleg entitled In-tensiones. A complex remix using several horn parts and held together by a labyrinth of percussion. The result is a monster of a groove backed by samples from one of jazz’s all time greats.
Next up is Soul Whispers. Looking for a dark groove that fuses fine minor chords and sultry whisper like vocals then look no further. Monoblock again create a shaker of a groove that keeps things flexing all whilst keeping the floor pondering and guessing at what’s to come.

This is the track that has been burning down the house this summer, this is punk-funk techno…this is ‘Fables and Fairytales’. A deep, dark and wonderful cut of distorted house music from Adam Marshall and Nicholas Murray under the alias N/A featuring the voice of Rosina… a creation that touches the heart, body and soul with an intensely passionate sound, producing one of the best Crosstown Rebels releases yet.
